Young people in London

"A Negative representation is better than no representation at all"
Discuss this statement with reference to the group or place you have studied

The young riots were represented as negative side, the media was a negative voice for the young youths in London.

- Media injected people and audience accepted that youths in London are groups of criminals and riots
whereas we don't know what specifically types of youths the media is aiming as in the riots 2011 different ethnicity  ages, genders, class were involved and that's why its stereotyped all young people in London

- Over exaggeration of the media in a negative response which led to moral panics and news values relating to young people

-Hegemony is controlling people to stay in their place therefore giving youths negative representation to keep society distracted.

No representation IS better than no representation as it enables young youths to start again and build up a new representation of themselves rather than accepting the different type of stereotypes - they can also reject the self-fulfilling prophecy and change their label that the media has given them through the news values

Example- riots have been portrayed negatively through the 3 media platforms especially newspapers and social networking which is seen as the madness of the whole creation.
